One of my favorite (and most time consuming) past-times is getting involved in community organizations. In college I realized that I had a desire to serve the community I was part of, joining a sorority, and serving as the chair of the Student Union and Programming Boards. That same desire has carried over into my professional life, and here are a few of the organizations that I am involved in:
Justice and Accountability – Volunteer Attorney – I work as a Re-Entry Court team mentor and advocate. I work with Re-Entry Court, which is a statutorily created program housed in both Orleans and Jefferson criminal courts. As an Advocate I work with reentry participants by helping them resolve legal issues that were open during the time they were incarcerated.
Junior League of New Orleans – The Junior League of New Orleans is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.
Krewe of Muses – Committee-Co-Chair is a social committee that raises funds for the Muses nonprofit organization and sponsoring organizations. The committee chairs work with venues to create fun opportunities for members that also raise funds for worthy causes.
Louisiana State Bar Association’s LIFT Fellow – With three incubator projects and an accelerator program, LIFT is designed to provide new attorneys with the resources and tools they need to build innovative, public interest-focused solo practices that increase access to legal services for low and moderate income residents of Louisiana. I have been part of the LIFT Fellowship since 2017.
